It includes automatic airflow control and a lambda sensor that measures oxygen levels inside the firebox – the same principle used in car engine management systems – to keep combustion precise. There’s also an autostarter that simplifies lighting, and a refuelling boost function that helps revive the fire when you add more logs rather than letting it drop before recovering.
App control comes as standard, so you can monitor burn status, adjust settings, and get alerts from your phone. Overheat protection and temperature monitoring are built in.
Where the Charnwood Aire Intelligent leans towards simplicity and elegance, the Contura Connect 556 leans towards data and control.
Both approaches are valid depending on what you want from the experience.

Do smart wood burners need a special installation? No – they’re installed in the same way as a conventional wood burner, requiring a suitable flue or chimney liner and a HETAS-registered engineer. The smart controls are internal to the stove.
